Across a five day workshop, the 138th European Study Group with Industry brings mathematicians and industrialists together to work side by side to solve the real and important issues that companies are facing today.

Take part in the UK’s next European Study Group with Industry (ESGI),
University of Bath, 16- 20  July 2018.


A unique opportunity for industry and other organisations to present their business problem to leading mathematicians for in-depth analysis with the aim of identifying practical and commercially viable solutions. 

First day 

Representatives from industry present their problem to a dedicated team of academics experts.

Day two – four

Mathematicians analyse the problem in depth, seeking to identify practical and commercially viable solutions.

Day five

Presentation of the work to solve the problem. This will be followed up shortly afterwards by a written project report.

Present a problem to a team of academic experts from areas such as mathematics, statistics, engineering and scientific computing for intensive week-long scrutiny. Focused on achieving practical and commercially viable solutions, the study group will culminate with a presentation of the teams work and a written project report.

Study groups provide a unique opportunity for academics to work with industry to come up with new ideas and solutions to real problems.

Academic participants with backgrounds in all strands of mathematics, engineering and scientific computing are welcome and encouraged to participate. The Bath Study Group will feature different problems that will be amenable to a wide range of different mathematical techniques.
